Getting All Wet
What? Getting all wet, what the heck is this crazy women talking about?
People, lets talk about swimming. Changing the variety of you exercises or your workout. Are you finding that your workout needs a little somethin, somethin?
I have always enjoyed swimming ever since my mom made me take lessons because we lived by the lake and a river. Lots of lives have been lost in the Kern Valley River.
Did you know that swimming is dated by 7,000 years ago in the Stone Ages. The front crawl or also known as the freestyle was originated from the Native American. Yeah! Swimming first became part of the Olympics in 1896.

Let’s talk about swimming as a way to exercise. Swimming uses the whole body to execute each stroke. Using swimming as a form of exercise can burn mega calories. Swimming or using water as an aerobic exercise is very gentle on the joints and bones. Swimming can improve posture and develop a strong lean physique, often called a “swimmer’s build.”
There are several different types of strokes that you can use for your swimming workouts. The first of course is the freestyle stroke or also known as the “Front Crawl.” It is the fastest of the other strokes. I was told that I have a beautiful stroke. That made me feel good. I could have really been a competitive swimmer. I have the build for it. Our little high school did not have a pool or a swim team, so I lost out. I did not even know you could swim competitive. Instead, I feel in love with basketball.
The second is ” The butterfly, (fly for short) is a swimming stroke swum on the breast, with both arms moving simultaneously. The butterfly kick was developed separately, and is also known as the “dolphin kick“.

Next is the
The breaststroke is a swimming style in which the swimmer is on their chest and the torso does not rotate. It is the most popular recreational style due to its stability and the ability to keep the head out of the water a large portion of the time. In most swimming classes, beginners learn either the breaststroke or the front crawl first. But in competitive swimming, the breaststroke is regarded as one of the most difficult strokes, requiring comparable endurance and leg strength to other strokes.

Let’s not forget the backstroke. I love doing the backstroke. I am actually really good at this. “Backstroke is an ancient style of swimming. It was the second stroke to be swum in competitions other than the front crawl. Backstroke was first inducted into the Olympics at 1900 Paris Olympics. Those Olympics included a 200 m backstroke race. The backstroke is also usually swum with bent arms underwater.”

And finally, the doggy paddle, which kids learn to do before they actually learn how to swim. The dog paddle or doggy paddle is a simple swimming style. It is characterized by the swimmer lying on his chest and moving his hands and legs alternately in a manner reminiscent of how dogs and other animals swim.[1]. It is effectively a “trot” in water, instead of land

As I was researching the strokes of swimming, I found like more strokes that are used but way too many for this article. If you would like to know more about swimming strokes, please go to wikipedia.org
With all of that being said, let’s go swimming and get all wet. OH and of course let’s go burn some calories and get a lean Physique. Yes, let’s get our Physique-a-licious body on. LOL

Super Cardio Part Dos!
I mentioned last time that I would get back with you on how it went with the Super Cardio 5-6 Plus.
Okay, so I watched the video and thought this would be great to try on my class and see how they do. WOW! When I was watching Tony do his exercises he seemed to get winded really fast and he wasn’t really doing anything to hard compared to say the Plyometrics on P90x. So, I thought I would just add 15 seconds of jumping jacks in between the little 30 seconds exercises.
He has three segments on this dvd. The famous squat and turn, I have a kid who really loves this exercise and I told him to keep it low and not jump because he has to do this 3 times. Well, just like a meat head he goes all out. He is huffing and puffing by the end of section 1. I then tell the class to do jacks, then the next exercise is a lunge and reach, well again add a little plyo jump there and you have your heart rate going crazy. 30 seconds doing jacks and the squat kicks. No time for break. Tony however takes a little break for some water. No water break until all 3 segments are complete. Yes folks, they were huffing and puffing and they still have 2 more sections to go.
Now, this Super Cardio is only 35 minutes long. Well, I add the Killer ABs from the One on One dvd. Had to get those abs in. They loved it. Well, maybe I loved hearing them moan. HA! 280 reps of crunches total. They should be hurting today.
Oh, by the way, I had a soccer player in the class and he ran three miles before coming to class. He was hurting. I tell those people not to really exert themselves before they come to class because they will not have anything left to do the class because Tony doe not call it extreme for nothing people.
Make sure you have your water and towel when doing thise exercises. Burn those calories. Not sure how many it burned because I was busy with the stop watch and busy keeping everyone motivated. Next time I will do the whole thing, maybe I will leave out the jacks. HA Not a chance. Come on you have to push it.

Calories Burned
I bought me a Heart Rate Monitor awhile back and really hadn’t used it. I noticed while I was teaching my light yoga class in Buffalo Gap that I couldn’t see my watch too much because my eyesight is not what it used to be because I find myself at the computer all the time anymore. :)
I switched wearing my regular watch to my Heart Rate Monitor watch so that I could see the numbers. ![]()
Well, since I have my heart rate monitor on I thought I would just see how many calories I am burning with all of my exercise classes that I teach. I have been stunned, but I use the heart monitor to my benefit as well.
I can usually burn about 750 calories on a great day just exercising or teaching classes.
One of the reason that I wear this monitor also, is because that it really keeps my accountable for what I eat afterwards. Have you ever noticed that people tend to eat way more than they burn after they work out. They have the mentality that since they have worked out that they can eat anything they want to. Okay, I know there are exceptions like Michael Phelps. He can eat everything under the sun. I am talking about us average folks who seem to just look at food and gain weight.
I also encourage my students and older folks to get a monitor so that they can see for themselves what they are burning and then they can adjust their meals accordingly. This has helped tremendously for many of them.
All I am saying is get yourself a great heart rate monitor and start keeping track of those calories actually burned during your workout. You will be amazed.
Don’t forget to workout to Power 90x, one-on-one with Tony, and the 10 minute Trainer with Tony.
He is the best. i love him.
All Work and No Change
Have you ever felted like you were working you butt off, keeping track of nutrition, how much you lifted, and even keeping track of your calories intake and burned and nothing is working? Gosh darn it, I have been working my tail end off and nothing (the FAT) is not budging. I am following the nutrition plan to the key. I have not had any fat for like two weeks. I have been eating my protein and drinking my shakes. I have incorporated my fruits more and vegetables with my salads. Nothing! I tell you nothing! I have been burning about 500 calories extra a day. Now, I know the magic number is 3500. So, this week I am already up to 1328. Two days and I have burned that many calories. I am getting ready to get on the Treadmill again.
I am really bummed out. I am just going to quit eating all together. No, I really like to eat. My deadline is getting closer and I can’t even tell the difference. The tape measure doesn’t even move. What to do. Am I going to have to go to really extreme? How much more can I go you guys?
Okay, I am going to have to pull out all the punches. Time to step it up again.
Time to start eating more of the Top Metabolic Foods. Next week, I had better see something.
Yes, The Inches are Melting!
It has only been two days on my new found taste of my Power 90x nutrition plan. Not as bad as I thought. Please not that my plan may not be the same for you. You have to find what is your formula. Although, Sunday is when I started the plan.
I know what you thinking, who in their right mind starts a change of eating habits on Sunday. Well, I thought I better do it and start it then, Sunday was just as good a day as Monday.
I was hungry all day. I marked off my squares as you can tell in my post of Nutrition is Key.
I ran on Monday and I did 10 laps around the track.
Now, the track at HSU is a little bigger that a 1/4 mile around. But it is pretty close to a mile if I complete 4 laps, so I did more than 2 1/2 miles. I could feel it in my knees. I know, first I felted in my shins then I feel it in my knees. I already feel it in the booty bouncing up and down shaking the earth. Did anyone feel anything on Monday?
I was so happy to find that my efforts of my delicious protein shake and my other proteins things I have been eating and plus my snacks and egg whites. I have been following the list really good.
Okay, here is the number in just two days, I have lost over an 1″. That is right. I hope to have dropped at least two inches by the end of the week. Please help me keep motivated.
It really is you guys whom I write for. I journal this because I want you to see that it does take hard work. It should be fun like my Turbo Kick class tonight.
I burned 412 calories and then taught a class after that which pushed the calories burned just in two hours 627 calories. So, I have lowered my calorie intake and up my calorie output which in turn, what? Yes, you are so smart. Weight Loss. Plus I have some other weight loss products and vitamins that I have been taken. Those will be discussed in the “Go Figure” section of this blog later. I am still working on that.
In the meantime, if you are looking to start a regimen, please get started and don’t wait for the Doc to say “Hey, you need to exercise and watch your eating habits or you are not going to make it”
My motto is if you look at my website www.myphysiqueinc.com is “A year from now you’ll wish you had started today.” by Karen Lamb. I love that quote because it means whatever in life. No Excuses!
Check back with me to see if my lost inches on Saturday is 2 inches.
I did it!
Yesterday I told you that I was going to combine the legs and back of Power 90x to my new Tony Horton Dvd one-on-one. So, ok I used the wam-up from Power 90x because in Tony’s one-one-one Plyo Legs he has already warmed up using the jump rope, so then he just gets to stretching. I warmed up and then I skipped the stretch and jumped right into it. You really shouldn’t but I needed to get right to it. Also, listen to your body and note how you are doing, if you are just starting out on this program by all means do the stretching. I had already did some Yoga earlier in the morning so I was pretty well stretched.
I followed the same format that Tony uses in the Power 90x, where he does two leg exercises and then does a back exercise. I definitely needed a break after the two Plyo legs exercises. Holy Cow!. I was definitely breathing hard and I could tell the first two exercises were fairly easy. Got my heart rate up to about 157. I did keep up pretty good with him and got down pretty low that I could get. I can’t seem to get the flexible in the ankles that I need. I need to work on that. I am having trouble to the chin-up bar. I have never really been good at that even after I have strengthen my back muscles. Just not meant for that. I have to question ladies that can do that. Just kidding. Do it if you can. I started with the bar and it is really hard for some reason so I switch to the bands and those are fairly somewhat easy to do. I have the heavy resistance band hooked up. I guess I need to play with that some more.
Those killer wall sits that he has you do, they are really the devil. He gets you into the 90 degree position and holds it I think it was for 3 minutes. I did have to take a little itch up the wall and then come back down again. Those weren’t as bad as the next time he has you do the alternate straight leg wall sits. OMG! 10 seconds on each side for 90 seconds. Thank God I did not fall to the floor. I did feel like it though. Busting a sweat trying to hold the wall up. The last time I remember doing something like that I was feeling pretty good and was very glad the wall was there holding me up. :) Remember you can not hold the wall with your hands and you can not place the hands on the thighs. It is all legs people.
So, we did these jack things and I tell you the first 10 were awesome after that, the legs just started to burn. Are you freakin kidding me? My heart rate of course went up and man I think we did 25 or 30 something. Holy Cow! Am I going to make?, it I thought to myself. Oh, I forgot to mention that he does take a break, but guess what? I did not, I needed to get the workout done. So, no water break for me. Please do not do this. You really need water by yourside. Fresh air also.
I finished the workout with the last 3 leg exercises he has on the one-on-one and did the stretch. I feel like someone beat the holy crap out of me. My shirt was soaked from sweat, plus I do not have a ceiling fan in my room.
I forgot to mention that on Thursday when I did Turbo Kick for the cardio we did the Turbo legs, then on Friday we did the wall sits and some lunges or something, I can’t remember but I have done legs all week. My legs are used to thing type of workout. I needed something a little more aggressive and boy did I get it. I love every minute of it, even though I really did want to give up. You have to set the goals for yourself. THIS PROGRAM IS NOT FOR THE SLACKER.
Then I had to go outside and fill my truck up with the trash that was outside. Hot, humid, and oppressive. Yuck! I swepted the porch and had a beer. Yup! I did, had me a nice Mic Ultra Lime one too. It was awesome.
I must tell you that I burned 445 calories in that 1 hour and 1/2. I told you it would take me longer because of the back stuff too.
I need to do cardio tomorrow and then on Monday I will start doing the doubles. Can’t wait for the next DVD. Bring it On Tony!
Hey, if anyone wants to purchase the Power 90x then, you can purchase under me, pkayfit at beachbody.com I am a coach there.
NO EXCUSES, WORK IT, AND DEFINITELY BRING IT!
thanks
