Holiday Smack Down

hello my friends, so glad you are interested in learning more about your health.

As the holidays approach, I know most of you exercise especially for this time of year.  Yes, I know.  Now, you have think you owe yourself for some good treats.  I would say so, but only in a good way.  You can definitly enjoy yourself this holiday season, but not over indulge.

Nutrition is 80% of your health.  Really, 80%.  That means you can exercise til you are blue in the face and get on the scale and get depressed to see the scale not budge.  I hate it when that happens.  LOL

If you are trying to lose weight, you should definitely look at your food intake.  Now, I really don’t like to use the word DIET.  It is another bad four letter word, because it gets used in the wrong context most of the time.  So what is DIET?  Diet by definition is and I quote “food and drink considered in terms of its qualities, composition, and it’s effect on health.”  “A particular selection of food, especially designed or prescribed to improve a person’s physical condition or to prevent or treat a disease.”

Well, ok so let’s look at this a little deeper, what is it that you put in your mouth?  Are you feeding your body by all acoounts healthy nutritious food?  Are you feeding your body junk food that has no nutritional value?  My guess and my years of experience with people who are trying to lose weight eat the food that has no nutritional value, in that it does not help the body do what it is suppose to do very well.  A person feels sluggish, tired most of the time, visits doctors quit often, and is very moody, are signs of a person who do not eat very well.

Do you feel tired after earting a big meal or how about a meal with fat in it?  This can be the cause of a bad diet.  I am not saying that this could be the only thing; I am merely suggesting taking a look at what’s in your DIET.

If you are serious about changing your life, serious about getting your life back, and serious about making your body feel good, you should start by documenting each day to see exactly what you’re eating.  Seriously, when you write it down in black and white you will see the truth.  I know, the truth hurts, but if it allure you to see exactly what your eating and enables “YOU” to change your habits, then it will set you free.

Did you know that carbohydrates (carbs) are you main source of energy?  Now, some of you tell me that you have cut down your carbs.  What?  What kind of carbs I ask?  Well, the kind of carbs that you need to cut out are ones with no nutritional value.  Meaning, cut out right now, the sodas, cookies, candy, and cakes, anything with white sugar and white flour in it.  If you feed your body this stuff your body will crave it.  If you feed your body the good carbs it is only going to crave the good stuff.  Hmmm! Make sense right?

Did you know that your body uses only what it needs and stores the rest as fat for later use?  Some of us have a lot of energy stored up.  Please don’t cut out all your carbs, you need those for energy.  Help your body crave foods that will make you function better, feel great, and produce a whole new you.

Let’s go into the new year forward without going backward with all the steps you have taken.

FAMILY HISTORY

Do you know your Family History?  If you do, do you know exactly what you inherited?

donald-duck

I am not sure if I mentioned this, but I was adopted when I was 3.  I was put in a foster home and stayed there for about 2 years when I was adopted.  I was blessed with very loveable parents who had such good morales, they were school teachers and oddly enough I find myself as a college professor.

So, why am I explaining all of this?  Well, I have always been an active girl.  I really enjoy playing basketball, I enjoy playing volleyball, tennis, and doing fitness.  I wanted to be a PE teacher and a coach.  I went into the USAF and raised a family and during that time I was off and on about working out.  I did bodybuilding back in the 80’s.  I finally went to school and got my bachelors’ degree in Physical Education and went back to school and received my Masters in Fitness and Wellness.

hsu-fitness

It was during this time that my professors kept asking, “Do you know your family history?”  I keep saying to myself “No” because I truly do not know my family history.  I do not know what I inherited from my mother or father or grandparents.

The point is this, I exercise as a preventive measure.  Since, I do not know my history I keep the diabetes and heart disease at bay with exercise and diet.  Being part hispanic and native american, I am more susceptible to these diseases.  I totally believe also that the environment that you are raised plays a big role.   My mother always cooked a protein, veggies and something else.  LOL

When you are conceived you are made f rom both DNA of your parents.

dna

Unfortunately, you can not pick your parents, but what you can do is through exercise and a clean diet you can help prevent or keep off certian inherited diseases.

Research show that Heart Disease is the number killer for Americans. Heart disease is known as the silent killer.

heart

If you are over weight you are certainly putting stress on your heart.  You store fat around the heart and eventually make the heart sufficate.

So, lets get going people, let get off the couch and move your body.  It is never too late, it will be too late when you are 6ft under.

Ultimate Fat Burners

Got your attention.  :)  Well, I’ve  talked about different exercises  and that a variety is good for the body. Now I am going to do the same for the blog. I have decided to write about getting the body to work for you.fat-lady

How do I get rid of this darn body fat that keeps sticking around like a bad wart.green-wart

The theory is that do more activity like exercise to increase output of energy while decreasing food intake.  Okay, I can see how that would work in the beginning for someone just getting started on a reasonable program.  There are some programs that are totally out there.  Listen to your body definitely.  Know what you are able to do.  Just remember that if you are starting out on a weight loss program to take baby steps.  You did not put the weight on all in one day and you are definitely NOT going to take it off in one day.

Now, for those of us who exercise like crazy almost  into an obsession mode (not good either), what can we do to help us a little more.  Well, diet is the key.  Okay, so you started eating salads and maybe not so much at dinner and you  cut down the amount that you eat.  Well, okay so the next question is, what kind of foods are you eating?

Awwwww, that is the question.  Are you eating foods that are going to help increase the metabolic rate to work for you instead of maintaining.  Well, let’s just look at this for a moment.

In order for you body to burn effectively it has to work hard, just like you have to work hard to pump those weights to build muscle.  weight-lifting

You have to work hard, you have to maximize your output.  Well, your metabolic rate also has to work hard to rev up the burning effect.  This is known as the “thermic effect” is the increment in energy expenditure above resting metabolic rate due to the cost of processing food for storage and use.

Great, now what kind of foods allows for this kind of affect?  How about proteins?  Okay proteins like wild caught fish, (sockeye salmon, herring, mackerel, claims and halibut. Meat (beef) from range or animals that eat grass from the land.buffalo

How about those eggs whites?  Great as a snack and filler.  Free-range of organic chicken.  Again, ones that eat grass.

Eat good fats and good carbohydrates.  Another words, stay away from the simple sugars.  Your body makes sugar anyhow, don’t add more to it.  It knows what it needs to survive the rest is put into storage for later use.  But if we never use it guess what?  Body starts to change in ways we don’t want it to.  fat-lady1

So, you don’t have to eat like a rabbit so to speak.  You just have to eat foods that work for you.  Find the right combination.  Everyone is different so listen and pay close attention to how your body reacts to certain foods that you eat.  If  your plan is not working change it up so that it does, just like your exercise routine.

I get lazy sure.  I will tend to graze on foods that I shouldn’t and guess what, I pay the price for it.  I have to work extra hard and now I really have to eat good clean foods.  My health is worth more to me and can’t not afford to go see a doctor.  I work hard so that I stay healthy and not end up at the doctors.   You should to.

Some people put blueberries, strawberries, bananas and other fruit to help.  But, I have learned to eat this cereal just plain.  I like it.

Since, I have starting eating this cereal, I have been regular lately and I feel so much better.  I have energy in the mornings to teach my classes.

I would definitely recommend this cereal to start your day.

Kashi also has oatmeal cereal which I am going to try.  Even though the weather is quit warm, I can still eat the warm cereal.

Why don’t you give it a try and do the body some good.

Ready to Get Lean

Well, I finally broke down and ordered the Chalean Extreme Workout set.  You get 15 DVD’s to help you get the Physique that you are looking for.

I have been working out with the P90x for awhile and I am getting stronger I can tell you that.  For the lean part though I need more.  I am so used to exercising that I have hit a bad plateau.  Really bad that it is frustrating.  I know what I have to do.  I have come across this before.  I am just not mentally there yet.  Did you know that your mind plays a big role in your daily routine?  All I have to say is, I am ready to bring it on.  Give me something to work with people.

Over the spring break I am going to hit the cardio bad.  I have to hit the track and really do the cardio portions of Tony’s one-on-one super Cardio and the cardio on the P90x.  I have a friend who is going to do it with me.  Well, actually she is looking to do something else, so I volunteered to do it with her.  She is really excited.

I just really want to “Get Physiquealicious” for the summer.  I think the weather has been a problem too.  I get so drepessed when the winter hits.

I will definitely keep you updated on my progress with the new workout  Chalean Extreme.  I am totally pumped about it.chalene_extreme_top_header_bg1

Did you know you can workout at home and win prizes with Team Beach Body.  Go check it out.  It is free to sign up.  Sign up under me and I will be your coach.  I am looking forward to it.  I will help you and you can help me.  That is what friends are for.  Let’s just do it.  I think we are suppose to eat right too.

I am definitely starting with my breakfast.

Yes, The Inches are Melting!

It has only been two days on my new found taste of my Power 90x nutrition plan.  Not as bad as I thought.  Please not that my plan may not be the same for you.  You have to find what is your formula.  Although, Sunday is when I started the plan.

I know what you thinking, who in their right mind starts a change of eating habits on Sunday.  Well, I thought I better do it and start it then, Sunday was just as good a day as Monday.

I was hungry all day.  I marked off my squares as you can tell in my post of Nutrition is Key.

I ran on Monday and I did 10 laps around the track.

Now, the track at HSU is a little bigger that a 1/4 mile around.  But it is pretty close to a mile if I complete 4 laps, so I did more than 2 1/2 miles.  I could feel it in my knees.  I know, first I felted in my shins then I feel it in my knees.  I already feel it in the booty bouncing up and down shaking the earth.  Did anyone feel anything on Monday?

I was so happy to find that my efforts of my delicious protein shake and my other proteins things I have been eating and plus my snacks and egg whites.  I have been following the list really good.

Okay, here is the number in just two days, I have lost over an 1″.  That is right.  I hope to have dropped at least two inches by the end of the week.  Please help me keep motivated.

It really is you guys whom I write for.  I journal this because I want you to see that it does take hard work.  It should be fun like my Turbo Kick class tonight.

I burned 412 calories and then taught a class after that which pushed the calories burned just in two hours 627 calories.  So, I have lowered my calorie intake and up my calorie output which in turn, what?  Yes, you are so smart.  Weight Loss.  Plus I have some other weight loss products and vitamins that I have been taken.  Those will be discussed in the “Go Figure” section of this blog later.  I am still working on that.

In the meantime, if you are looking to start a regimen, please get started and don’t wait for the Doc to say “Hey, you need to exercise and watch your eating habits or you are not going to make it”

My motto is if you look at my website www.myphysiqueinc.com  is “A year from now you’ll wish you had started today.”  by Karen Lamb.  I love that quote because it means whatever in life.  No Excuses!

Check back with me to see if my lost inches on Saturday is 2 inches.
