Holiday Smack Down

hello my friends, so glad you are interested in learning more about your health.

As the holidays approach, I know most of you exercise especially for this time of year.  Yes, I know.  Now, you have think you owe yourself for some good treats.  I would say so, but only in a good way.  You can definitly enjoy yourself this holiday season, but not over indulge.

Nutrition is 80% of your health.  Really, 80%.  That means you can exercise til you are blue in the face and get on the scale and get depressed to see the scale not budge.  I hate it when that happens.  LOL

If you are trying to lose weight, you should definitely look at your food intake.  Now, I really don’t like to use the word DIET.  It is another bad four letter word, because it gets used in the wrong context most of the time.  So what is DIET?  Diet by definition is and I quote “food and drink considered in terms of its qualities, composition, and it’s effect on health.”  “A particular selection of food, especially designed or prescribed to improve a person’s physical condition or to prevent or treat a disease.”

Well, ok so let’s look at this a little deeper, what is it that you put in your mouth?  Are you feeding your body by all acoounts healthy nutritious food?  Are you feeding your body junk food that has no nutritional value?  My guess and my years of experience with people who are trying to lose weight eat the food that has no nutritional value, in that it does not help the body do what it is suppose to do very well.  A person feels sluggish, tired most of the time, visits doctors quit often, and is very moody, are signs of a person who do not eat very well.

Do you feel tired after earting a big meal or how about a meal with fat in it?  This can be the cause of a bad diet.  I am not saying that this could be the only thing; I am merely suggesting taking a look at what’s in your DIET.

If you are serious about changing your life, serious about getting your life back, and serious about making your body feel good, you should start by documenting each day to see exactly what you’re eating.  Seriously, when you write it down in black and white you will see the truth.  I know, the truth hurts, but if it allure you to see exactly what your eating and enables “YOU” to change your habits, then it will set you free.

Did you know that carbohydrates (carbs) are you main source of energy?  Now, some of you tell me that you have cut down your carbs.  What?  What kind of carbs I ask?  Well, the kind of carbs that you need to cut out are ones with no nutritional value.  Meaning, cut out right now, the sodas, cookies, candy, and cakes, anything with white sugar and white flour in it.  If you feed your body this stuff your body will crave it.  If you feed your body the good carbs it is only going to crave the good stuff.  Hmmm! Make sense right?

Did you know that your body uses only what it needs and stores the rest as fat for later use?  Some of us have a lot of energy stored up.  Please don’t cut out all your carbs, you need those for energy.  Help your body crave foods that will make you function better, feel great, and produce a whole new you.

Let’s go into the new year forward without going backward with all the steps you have taken.

Trying Something New!

Do you ever get tired of the same ol stuff like protein bars,  protein smoothies, and protein shakes.  Sure I like all that stuff.  I like to eat just regular hard boiled egg whites.  I like those for breakfast.

I decided to help my ladies out by home baking some muffins.  I found that the ladies don’t eat breakfast too much and that after a great workout they leave my studio hungry.  I too leave kind of hungry.  I have found that if you are hungry after you eat, that some people (not everyone) will tend to grab the first thing they can get their hands on.  It is usually a bag of chips and a soda.  Just because you workout doesn’t mean you can fill those calories burned back with junk.

So, I decided to help them make a better choice.  I started making some low-fat, protein muffins. All kinds, blueberry, apple spice, and the choices are just unlimited.  I substitute the milk with non-fat milk, and I use the egg whites instead of the whole egg, and if calls for vegetable oil I use olive oil.  (i know any kind of liquid oil is really not good). I figure this help tie them over until they get home and can get something better.  Oh, for the protein I use a powder from Arbonne (check out my go figure page).  I use the vanilla flavor.

Just have one for a snack, don’t eat them as a whole meal or eat like a dozen.

So, if you want to try something different and look after your hard work in the gym, try a low-fat protein muffin.
